Venus Earrings

There is something ridiculous about seashell earrings that cannot go near water, so I tested these properly on a week in Sardinia. They went swimming in the Mediterranean every single day and I never took them out, not even to shower. Salt water usually gets into the join where the pearl meets the metal and turns everything chalky and grey within days. These came home with the pearls still glossy and the gold on the shell exactly as bright as it left. No stiffness in the post, no white residue in the carved grooves. Rinsed once each evening and nothing more.

Textured pieces are where I have been burned before, because tarnish always starts deep in the recesses where you cannot polish it out. The carved channels on these shells were exactly the risk. I have worn them at least three times a week since February, through summer heat, hairspray, perfume and plenty of sweat. Last week I held one right up under a lamp and looked into every groove. Still bright gold at the bottom of each one, with no darkening and no dull grey creeping in from the edges. They look identical to the pair in the listing photos and I have never cleaned them beyond a wipe.

My lobes are so reactive that I had almost given up on earrings entirely, and I had gone about two years wearing only plain surgical steel studs. Anything else and I get swelling, weeping and a solid week of soreness. I wore these for a full day in March as a test and there was nothing, not even tenderness that evening. Since then they have been in for whole weekends at a time including overnight and through workouts. My lobes have stayed completely calm the entire time, which has never happened with a decorative earring before. The weight is well balanced too, so there is no dragging on the hole.

The gold is lovely and well finished but most of my other pieces are silver. I wear these on their own rather than mixing. Would buy a second pair instantly if there were an option.

They are a fraction larger on the ear than I expected from the listing photos. Weight is not an issue, just a more dramatic look than planned.

My sister actually gasped when she opened them. She has worn them every day since and sent me photos twice. Best present I have picked in years.
