Hoop Earrings

Gold hoops are the thing I have wasted the most money on over the years, because they always go coppery at the bottom of the curve where they get the most contact. I bought these in February half expecting the same and started paying attention around week six when the fade usually shows. It never came. I have now worn them through a humid Houston spring, daily showers, gym sessions, self tanner, and more perfume than I should admit. The bottom of each tube is the exact same warm gold as the top, with no pink creeping in anywhere. I put them next to a pair I bought last year and the difference is honestly a little embarrassing for the old ones.

I swim laps four mornings a week and I gave up taking earrings out months ago. These thick tube hoops have been in chlorinated water probably sixty times since March, plus every shower in between. Over spring break they also did five days of ocean swimming in Cancun with no rinse most days. The place I expected trouble was the little opening where the post clicks in, because water sits there and rusts everything eventually. It is still clean and clicks shut just as crisply as it did new. The tubes themselves have the same deep even shine, no water spots and no dull ring at the bottom.

I have not been able to wear a hoop in about eight years because the post sitting in my piercing all day sets off a reaction every time. It starts as an itch, then the lobe swells and weeps, and then I am back to nothing for a month. A friend with the same problem told me to try stainless steel with no nickel so I risked it. These have been in my ears nearly every day since March with zero irritation, including several stretches where I left them in for four or five days straight. Sweat, shower water, and shampoo have all sat in the piercing with them and nothing has flared. Being able to wear a proper chunky hoop again after this long genuinely made my week.

The earrings themselves look far more expensive than they were and the shape is lovely on. They came in a very basic little sleeve, which I only mention because I had bought them as a birthday gift.

No weight on the ear and they sit nicely all day. They read a touch larger in person than I expected.

They are plain enough for the school run and substantial enough for an evening out with no change in between. That flexibility is why they are the only earrings in my bathroom. The rest are in a drawer.
