Double Cross Necklace

I wore this every day of a beach week in June and made no effort to protect it. It was in salt water each morning, then covered in sunscreen, then in the pool most evenings, and I slept in it every night without rinsing. Salt sat in the pave settings for days at a time. When I finally ran it under a tap it came back exactly as sparkling as before, with no cloudy stones and no corrosion at the little clasp. Since then it has been in every single shower I take. Neither cross has dulled, the chain has not stiffened, and nothing has gone dark where the two pendants overlap. Water is simply not something this necklace notices.

I have bought a lot of gold cross necklaces over the years and they all follow the same arc, looking wonderful for six weeks and then going dull and slightly orange around the edges. This one has been on my neck since mid February and it has broken that pattern completely. Hairspray every morning, perfume, sunscreen through the whole summer, sweat from daily workouts, and hot showers every night. The backs of both crosses, which sit against my skin and never see air, are still fully gold with no dark film. The chain has not darkened at the clasp or where it sits behind my neck. I have never polished it once and it still catches light exactly like it did in the photos.

Necklaces have always been off limits for me. My neck goes red and itchy under a chain within about two hours and any pendant resting on my chest leaves a rash by evening, so I have spent years wearing only earrings. My sister bought me this in March and I put it on to be polite, and it has barely come off since. No itching under the chain, no redness where the two crosses rest, and no irritation after sleeping in it night after night. I have worn it through sweaty workouts and a very humid summer, both of which normally guarantee a reaction. The chain is smooth against the back of my neck and the backs of the pendants are polished flat with nothing rough on them. Finding a necklace my skin simply does not notice has been a genuine relief.

Three months of coastal summer air and it has not dulled or discolored in the slightest. I wear it outside every single day.

Comfort wise it is excellent, I forget it is on within minutes. The clasp is very small for my fingers, so I put it on in front of a mirror.
